Vendor release notes: build your action list, skip the rest
Every week, another vendor ships an update. Lately the notes are longer than ever — a stream of new AI features, redesigned dashboards and renamed menus — and buried somewhere in the middle is the one item that is mandatory for your setup. Reading everything is not diligence; it is how the mandatory item gets the same attention as a colour change.
The three buckets
Every line in a set of release notes belongs to exactly one bucket, judged against your setup notes — not against the vendor's enthusiasm:
- Applies, and is required — a migration, a retirement, a setting that stops working. This is your action list
- Applies, and is optional — a feature you may adopt when it earns its place. Read it, file it, move on
- Not your setup — the plan tier you are not on, the module you never enabled, the region you do not operate in. Skip it without guilt
One update, classified
This is a real output from the release-notes action gate, classifying one vendor note against one admin's stated setup:
Summary: The provided note announces an Export v2 migration for Legacy Export users and an optional dashboard-color update. Your stated nightly Legacy Export job makes the migration applicable, subject to vendor confirmation. Decision table: Legacy Export retirement | Applies | Required (per source) | 'admins using Legacy Export must migrate'; dashboard colors | Not applicable to current objective | Optional | 'colors are optional'. Checklist: Do — confirm official migration instructions, test Export v2 in a safe environment, and plan cutover before 2027-03-01; owner unassigned. Verify — whether the account rollout begins 2027-01-15 and which prerequisites apply.
Sample data above is fictional, shown so you can judge the output before buying.
Every kept item traces to a line
The checklist item is not the deliverable — the trace is. Each action quotes the release-note line that created it ('admins using Legacy Export must migrate'), so when a colleague asks why the team is migrating exports this quarter, the answer is a sentence from the vendor, not a feeling from the admin. Items whose applicability cannot be settled from your notes stay marked unknown, with the targeted question that would settle them — the gate asks instead of guessing.

Questions
Can it read a URL by itself?
No — paste the text or transcript; it never assumes web access.
Will it change account settings?
No — it makes a review checklist, not live changes.
What if my setup is undocumented?
Applicability stays unknown; the skill asks targeted questions.
