The moving quote checklist: ask before you price
A moving quote is only as good as the questions asked before it. The dispute on moving day — the stairs nobody mentioned, the piano, the truck with nowhere to park — was decided at intake, when nobody asked. This is the checklist, by category. It is the content: print it, or run it as a skill.
Access, at both ends
- At the origin: floor, stairs or lift, corridor and door widths for the largest items
- At the destination: the same questions again — access is two different answers, not one
- Anything that decides whether a large item moves at all: stairwell turns, lift booking rules, walk distance from truck to door
Heavy, fragile and easy-to-miss items
- Pianos, safes, large cabinets and anything glass — named individually, never assumed under 'furniture'
- Items needing special handling, two-person lifts or disassembly before the day
- What is explicitly NOT included in the move — the exclusion nobody writes down is the argument later
Parking and loading
- Where the moving vehicle can load or park at each address — asked per address, not per move
- Permits, building management rules or time windows that restrict loading
Scope and timing
- Is packing part of the quote, or is the customer only asking whether the company offers it?
- Dates and flexibility at both ends, and anything about the buildings that changes the plan
What the skill produces from a first message
The intake-gap skill reads the customer's first message and returns only the questions that message left open — already-known items are not re-asked — with a source check naming what is still unresolved.
STATUS: READY SURVEY QUESTIONS: - At Brook House, where can the moving vehicle load or park? - At Pine Court, what floor and stairs or lift access will movers use? - At Pine Court, where can the moving vehicle load or park? - Is the glass cabinet included in the move, and does it need special handling? - Do you want packing included in the survey scope, or are you asking only whether the company offers it? SOURCE CHECK: - Known origin access and inventory: ORIGIN_ACCESS and INVENTORY_NOTES. - Destination and packing are unresolved in DESTINATION_ACCESS and SERVICES_REQUESTED.
Sample data above is fictional, shown so you can judge the output before buying.
Before you price
Price what the answers confirm. Keep the unresolved areas — destination access, services requested — visibly open in the quote rather than silently assumed, because an assumed answer is a price you will renegotiate on the day, in the driveway, at the worst possible moment.

Questions
Does it fill in missing details?
No — its instructions prohibit inventing details and require flags for uncertainty; AI output can still be wrong, so you must review it.
Do I need a paid add-on, API, or connected account?
No — you need access to a compatible AI chat; access limits and any chat-service charges depend on that provider.
Is the draft ready to send or publish without review?
No — the status and source checks are intended to support human verification first.
What if the customer answers only half the questions?
The unanswered items stay flagged as unresolved in the source check. You price what is confirmed and keep the rest open instead of assuming it.
